Day 93 of protests in Sofia

On October 9, day 93 of the protests, the protesters' demands remain unchanged - the resignation of the government and the Prosecutor General, the introduction of machine and electronic voting at elections, and a reform of the judiciary.

One of the main organisers of the protests, lawyer Nikolai Hadzhigenov from the so called “Poisonous Trio”, said there would be another Grand National Uprising on Day 100 of the protests.

After 22:00 pm, the protesters surrounded GERB MEP Andrei Novakov, who was a guest in “Panorama” current affairs programme, aired on BNT on Fridays.

After the end of “Panorama”, he was blocked for more than 10 minutes by protesters, who bombarded him with questions about the government's policies. They demanded his resignation.

The gendarmerie tried to take the MEP through San Stefano and Sheinovo streets in the area of the public service briadcaster. Novakov was followed by the protesters. Eventually, the police officers took him across Evlogi Georgiev Blvd.

The protesters also surrounded and talked with the other guest in "Panorama" - Kristian Vigenin from the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP).

The protesters blocked BNT entries and exits by putting branches of trees in front of them.

They also blocked the street by overturned dust bins.

Police presence in the area was enhanced.

The protesters gathered outside the building of BNT around 21:00 , at the time when “Panorama” programme was broadcast. A luxurious car was parked in front of the building and they suspected it was the car of some of the guests in the current affairs programme. It turned out to be a car of the Bulgarian National Bank, which uses the parking lot of a bank in a building in the area.

The demonstrators refused to let the car pass with the motive that the central bank, BNB, was directly responsible for the collapse of Corporate Commercial Bank.

They were throwing eggs at the BNT building.

The procession to Eagles’ Bridge took place around 20:30.

The starting point of the protest was the same as on previous nights – the Triangle of Power in downtown Sofia.
