ELECTION CAMPAIGN IN BULGARIA BEGAN

On 5th of September, the official election campaign in Bulgaria started.

18 parties and 7 coalitions will run for the 5th of October early parliamentary elections. In some constituencies, independent candidates will also stand as MPs.

After only one year in office, the Bulgarian government led by the socialist backed Prime Minister Oresharski resigned on 23rd of July and Parliament voted to accept the resignation on 24th of July.

Bulgaria’s President convened consultations with the Parliamentary groups to offer mandate for formation of government. As no agreement was reached, President Plevneliev issued a Decree to dissolve the Parliamenton on 6th of August, scheduled the early parliamentary elections for 5th of October and appointed a caretaker government.
