After having been delayed twice, the expert mission of the European experts aimed at conducting an independent review of the work the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s office began on 27th of June. Four magistrates from Great Britain, Germany, Spain and Holland arrived in Bulgaria, the Head of European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, Ognian Zlatev, confirmed for BNT.
This morning the experts started work on a programme, which was previously agreed with Bulgaria’s Ministry of Justice. The magistrates will meet with representatives of various institutions and Bulgarian experts, including from the NGO sector, Zlatev said. The first meetings will be held with Bulgaria’s Justice Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva and the management of the Prosecutor’s office.
The technical mission will continue until the end of the week and will be followed by several other working visits in the next six months. The task of the experts is to analyse the structure and the way the prosecution functions – hierarchy and specialized structures, as well as integrity and workload of the prosecutors. The analysis will be summarised in a report with recommendations.
