leaders resume meeting top posts

European Union leaders resumed talks on July 2 after having failed to nominate names for top EU jobs, including the important post of the President of the European Commission.

Among the names discussed for different positions are those of the Bulgarian EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel and the Executive Director of the World Bank Kristalina Georgieva.

Speaking ahead of a European Council in Brussels on July, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that Kristalina Georgieva is extremely well-prepared but she has to get enough support.

She has support from several countries, and of course she has my support, because it would be prestigious if Bulgaria took up this post, but in the morning several of the EU leaders expressed opposite opinion, PM Borissov said. Many of the colleagues were against Kristalina Georgieva because she left the post of EC Vice President early. There is no doubt she is the most suitable candidate for the European Commission given her experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, he added.

"As the most represented party in the new European Parliament - we, the EPP family, have always believed that strength is in unity and tolerance. I am convinced that together we will reach the right decisions and we will continue to lead the development of Europe. With Chancellor Angela Merkel and the other EPP colleagues we are discussing possible candidacies for leaders of the European institutions," Prime Minister Borissov wrote in his personal Facebook profile.
