Farmers are coming out in protest today, September 14. They resent the uncontrolled import of Ukrainian grain and Europe's policies (The european green deal).
They want a reduction in the use of pesticides and demand greater protection for the industry. In the Dobrich region the discontent is also directed against gas extraction in Dobrudja.
Farmers' protests are planned in 12 countries in Europe today and in the next two days.
In Bulgaria, the protest actions are organized by the National Association of Grain Growers and will be in the regional cities in the agricultural regions of the country.
Protest march of grain growers on the Sub-Balkan road from Karnobat to Sliven.
The reason for the discontent is the uncontrolled import of grain from Ukraine. Their concerns are that they have no information where and how the imported grain is stored in the country and that the grain imported from Ukraine is not subject to any phytosanitary control and they do not know whether it is mixed with Bulgarian grain. The protest is also against the high prices of fertilizers.
In the region of Burgas, in a addition to Karnobat there is a protest in 3 places - in Burgas and Aitos. Heavy vehicles will not block roadways, they will only pass on them.
"We are protesting because they want to kill our livelihood. Because the import of Ukrainian grain undercuts our prices and our reputation. I see that my pocket is empty. This leads to the conclusion that there are much cheaper goods from Ukraine that enter and undercut our prices," said Krasimir Penchev, a farmer.
"Why are we against Ukrainian grain - because we do not know what is the phytosanitary control that has been exercised for it and all of it enters our processing plants and enters our table. And for everything we are blamed - the grain growers", added Theodor Ivanov, a grain farmer.
