In the evening on October 29, doctors from the busiest emergency ward in Bulgaria – the one in “Saint Anna” hospital in Sofia - stood in front of the hospital and asked for solidarity between medical professionals and the public in the battle against Covid-19.
The medics had the lights of their mobile phones turned on to symbolise the light that connects us in the difficult times of the epidemic.
They called on people to help each other, by observing the recommendations for personal hygiene, restrictions on gatherings and contacts indoors, as well as for strict wearing of masks.
The doctors and nurses from the frontline in the battle with COVID-19 were adamant that the members of the public, by helping the Bulgarian healthcare, would be helpful to themselves and that only with joint efforts we will defeat the infection.
Tonight, medics from the Emergency Medical Centre in the North Bulgarian city of Rousse came out in front of the building with the lights of their mobile phones switched on. The idea was to draw public attention to the need to comply with the anti-epidemic measures introduced to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
They were joined by doctors, nurses and paramedics from hospitals in the region. In one of the hospitals, they even turned on the lights and sirens of their ambulances. This shows the unity of medical institutions in the fight against the infection, the medics commented.
The appeal for such action in Rousse comes from the acting district governor and head of the regional operational headquarters, Svilen Ivanov. He called on all members of the public who support the measures and the medics to also turn on the lights of their phones and stand by the windows in their homes.
According to them, the light symbolizes the end of the long challenge caused by the COVID crisis.
