GERB party is asking: Is oligarchy being accommodated in the state administration?

At an extraordinary news conference of GERB party (majority partner in the former coalition government) on May 14, the former Minister of Finance, Kiril Ananiev, said that he was extremely worried about what was happening in the country in the past 24 hours.

The heads of two key agencies, the National Revenue Agency and the Customs Agency, were fired for political reasons, without an analysis having been conducted. This is the circulatory system of the financial sector, Ananiev noted.

The dismissals led to huge tensions in the two agencies. This may lead to a sharp drop in revenue, he added.

Ananiev, said that as finance minister in the previous caretaker cabinet appointed by President Radev in 2017, he was persuaded by the President to dismiss the directors of these two agencies, but he refused.

He is adamant that in the past 5 years the tax revenues have increased, which in practice means that the tax administration works efficiently.

At the moment, everyone wants and already likes our socio-economic measures, you hear that there is a desire to extend the monthly payment of BGN 50 for pensioners, to extend 60/40 and 80/20 measures. If there is a collapse in revenues, I do not know how the necessary funds will be provided, Ananiev continued.

I undertake to monitor the implementation of the revenues until the end of the work of the caretaker cabinet and then we will decide whether these politically motivated dismissals were correct or not, the former Minister of Finance pointed out.

If revenues fall, new debt will have to be drawn. This means that we are entering a debt spiral, whether we would meet the criteria for the euro would also be in question, said Ananiev.
