GERB-UDF returned the second mandate, Bulgarian President Radev to start consultations tomorrow

The parliamentary group GERB-UDF returned the second mandate to form a government to the President.

“The parliamentary group GERB-UDF will not exercise its right to fulfill the mandate to form a government in the 47th National Assembly, granted by the Constitution, and will not nominate a candidate for Prime Minister,” declared Dessislava Atanassova.

I respect your decision, declared Rumen Radev, but in a parliamentary republic it is exactly the parties who carry the responsibility for forming a ruling majority.

“Whether or not they are ruling or in opposition, all parties and parliamentary members have their role in finding a way out of the crisis. For this reason, tomorrow I am going to start consultations with all parliamentary represented parties, so we can hear how they see the way out of the current crisis.”

The issue of authority is important, but it does not override the responsibility to the citizens and the country. The Bulgarians expect from the politicians that the decisions and protection of the national interests be placed above those of the parties, underlined the president.

After GERB returned the second mandate, the third one remains as the only possibility for forming a government with the current Parliament’s configuration. Three parties already declared that they are ready to make an attempt - “Democratic Bulgaria”, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and “There is Such a People”. All three emphasised that they are open for dialogue only within the range of the disintegrated quadruple coalition.

A week ago, it became known that there would not be a new government with a mandate from the “We Continue the Change” party in the current Parliament. The candidate for Prime Minister, Assen Vassilev, returned the mandate unfulfilled to the President.
