The government strongly supports the requests of the Bulgarian road hauliers for amendments to the so-called "Mobility package" introducing restrictions for the industry, the government's press office announced on 8th of January.
This was made clear during a meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Transport Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov, which discussed the upcoming protest with lorries in Brussels on January 10, when the law is expected to be voted on by the transport committee in the European Parliament.
Hauliers have opposed the posting of workers regulation, the compulsory return to Bulgaria for breaks after every 4 weeks of driving and the prohibition to stay the night in the cabs of the lorries.
The Bulgarian state is in solidarity with the protest of the transport industry, which is expected to be supported by hauliers from Romania, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia and Ireland.
According to the Prime Minister, if the package is adopted without the amendments demanded by Bulgaria, our country will lose much of its economic potential and its domestic product, hauliers will be forced to move their business to another location and this is unacceptable to the state.
