The guaranteed minimum income increases by BGN 10 and as of 1 January it will be BGN 75. The4 decision was made by Bulgaria’s government on 13th of December as a measure to protect the most vulnerable groups. This amount is used as basis for calculating a number of social benefits.
The aim is to improve the social protection system of the most vulnerable groups. The guaranteed minimum income is used as the basis for determining the limits of access to alowances and the amount of social benefits in order to provide a minimum income to satisfy the basic needs of individuals according to their age, marital status, health, income and wealth.
Another positive effect of the increase in the guaranteed minimum income would be the extension of the range of monthly social benefits, heating allowances and rent allowances for municipal housing.
