Plamen Maksimov, head of Sofia’s Fifth Police Station, has been detained, BNT has learned. Police officers from the sector for countering drug distribution, who are employees of the police station, have also been arrested.
The operation was carried out by the Ministry of Interior’s Internal Security Directorate in cooperation with the Chief Directorate for Combatting Organised Crime (GDBOP).
At this stage, those detained include the head of the Fifth Police Station, the head of the anti-drug unit in the police station, and two other officers from the same unit.
Sources report that 12 drug dealers, including their ringleader known by the nickname “Staklyarya” (the Glazier), were also arrested during the operation.
The detainees are suspected of being involved in the distribution of drugs on the territory of the area for which Fifth Police Station is in charge.
No official statement has yet been released by GDBOP or the Internal Security Directorate regarding the operation.
