Bulgaria’s health care system still has the resources to deal with the coronavirus epidemic, but overloading is already beginning to be felt in some districts. The reason is the non-observance of the anti-epidemic measures by all, announced the Minister of Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, at the beginning of the regular weekly briefing at the Ministry of Health on October 15.

"We see hesitation in people regarding the compliance with COVID-19 anti-epidemic measures. The figures show an increase in the number of people who tested positive for the virus," the minister said, stressing that not everyone followed the measures as prescribed: wearing masks indoors, ventilating the premises, keeping distance, discipline.

As we see lack of discipline, we will increase control over the compliance, he said. The police and the institutions will carry out round-the-clock control for the observance of the existing anti-epidemic measures.

"Regional Health Inspectorates and the police will carry out daily and night control of all places where large groups of people gather, and public places where the measures must be observed: shops, malls, discos, nightclubs," Angelov explained. .

The Minister of Health called for restrictions on travel to Targovishte and Blagoevgrad districts, unless necessary. "There we have a morbidity of over 120 people per 100,000, an unnecessary trip there would lead to the spread of the disease in other areas," the minister appealed.

The current situation does not require the establishment of separate hospitals only for the treatment of coronavirus, it became clear from the words of the Minister of Health.

The regular briefing on coronavirus today was also attended by the Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev and the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev.

There is an increase in the tests performed in our country. The limit of 400 tests per 100,000 population has been passed, Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev announced at the briefing.

He presented data on the epidemic situation in Europe and in Bulgaria for the past two weeks. "In Europe, we are 22nd out of 30 countries. We are 5th in the Balkans. The death rate is 1.56 per 100,000, which puts us in 8th place in the EU," he said.

As at today, October 15, 172 students and children and 165 teachers have tested positive for coronavirus, announced the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev. Between 5 and 6 students are infected per day since the beginning of the year, which is 6-7 times below the average values for the total population, he concluded.
