Several district heating companies in the country have asked for serious increase in prices of heating and hot water from 1 July this year. This became clear after the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) published a summary of the proposed heating prices for the regulatory period 1 July 2023 - 30 June 2024.
The company in Veliko Tarnovo has asked for an increase of 178%, according to the reference of EWRC. The district heating companies in Vratsa and Pleven are proposing an increase of 128% and 122% respectively from 1 July. The company in Burgas wants the price of heating to increase by 110%.
"EVN Bulgaria Toplofikatsia" in Plovdiv proposes an increase in the price of heating and hot water by 23% from 1 July, and the company in Pernik" by 54%.
Sofia district heating has indicated a minimum decrease for the new regulatory period by 0.2% - from the current 137.86 BGN to 137.55 BGN per megawatt-hour.
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission is in the process of analysing the price rise applications received from the utility companies and is about to prepare reports on them. They will be examined within the statutory deadline at open meetings and public hearings, the regulator said.
The country's electricity distribution companies are also proposing electricity price hikes for household consumers from July 1, according to a reference from the utility regulator on proposed electricity prices for the regulatory period July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024.
"Electrohold - Sales, which supplies electricity in Western Bulgaria, proposes that the price of the day rate remain the same (BGN 0.11146 per kilowatt-hour), but the night rate be doubled - from BGN 0.02629 to BGN 0.04102 per kilowatt-hour.
"EVN Bulgaria Electricity" proposes to keep the night rate at BGN 0.02115 per kilowatt-hour, but a minimal increase of the day rate - to BGN 0.10969 compared to BGN 0.10917 per kilowatt-hour. BTA recalls that before submitting the application, EVN Bulgaria's Chairman of the Management Board, Alexander Sipek, said at an event in late March that the average increase in electricity tariffs in Southeast Bulgaria would be 1.6%.
"Energo Pro Sales proposes to maintain the current prices of the day rate (BGN 0.11311 per kilowatt-hour) and the night rate (BGN 0.02017 per kilowatt-hour).
