The coronavirus data are becoming increasingly alarming - 334 people have lost their lives. Almost 95% of them have not been vaccinated. The number of newly infected is also high – more than 5,000 daily cases were reported on November 9. It is still difficult to find vacant beds in the hospitals. A record number of patients were admitted to the intensive care unit during this wave - 78 people.

The 14-day mortality rate has gone up at least two-fold compared to the national average in three districts - Montana, Vidin and Kyustendi.

For every 100,000 people, 73 died of Covid in Montana. 4 hospitals in the district have beds for Covid patients. There are intensive care beds in two of them - but only in one of the hospitals there were vacant paces. Patients for whom there are no places are periodically transported to the capital.

"Any vacant bed is immediately re-occupied. Although our beds are for patients without complications, we have such patients who currently need intensive care treatment, but we do everything possible with our available equipment, respirators and other things to help them," said Vladimir Minchev from City Clinic hopital in Montana.

The district of Vidin also reported extremely high mortality rate - 70 people for every 100,000. The influx of patients is constant. Today, a three-month-old baby with pneumonia was transferred to the capital. Only 6 doctors take care of all Covid patients in the district hospital.

"The number of cases are not decreasing, we really hoped that there would be a decline, that we would get some rest, but there are still about 90 patients hospitalized and in practice as soon as a patient is discharge, another takes their place. There is a lot of work and it is very difficult," Bogdan Tomov, Deputy Director of "St. Petka" hospital in Vidin said.

The district of Kyustendil in is third place in terms of death rate, with 61 deaths for every 100,000 people. According to the caretaker Minister of Health, this wave is longer and with more infected people, but the health authorities are doing better. The death toll on Tuesday, he said, has traditionally been high because of the last few days. Data show that 653 people have died since Saturday.
