Hristo Dinev is the new Sofia City Prosecutor, announced BTA. He was elected by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in Bulgaria. 16 members of the SJC voted in favour of his candidature, 4 against and 3 abstained.
The other candidate for the post, Boyko Atanasov, received 5 votes in favour, 5 against and 13 abstained.
Upon his election, Dinev stated he was aware that there would be lots of ‘hot potatoes’ and promised openness in the work of Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office.
During the hearing he explained that in his previous position as Regional Prosecutor of Sofia, he managed to implement some of his ideas and reminded about the difficult conditions in which Sofia Regional Prosecutor’s Office worked.
The position became vacant in April 2013 when the former Sofia City Prosecutor, Nilolai Kokinov, was dismissed from the post after a scandal about a leaked conversation between him, the ex Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the ex Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Naidenov, illegally recorded in the house of Boyko Borisov.
