Data of the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute (NSI) show that prices in May 2014 were by half percent lower in comparison with April 2014. This is mainly due to decrease in prices of food. In April, prices also dropped for furniture, transport and restaurants, but clothes, shoes and medicines were more expensive.
Prices of properties, alcohol and medical services in May remain at the same level as in April.
As a result of the new EU rules for the national accounts, from the beginning of October, the National Statistical Institute will include activities like globalization and new technologies in the calculation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
