The condition of the two workers, who were injured in an incident in the thermal Power Plant (TPP) AES Galabovo, remains serious. A 42 year old man is in coma and his 57 year old colleague has undergone a brain surgery. The two fell into a shaft while carrying out repair work.
Yesterday, September 30, at about 3:30 pm at the TPP "AES and Galabovo" the two workers were carrying out repair work in the shaft of a pumping station for waste water. They are assumed to have inhaled toxic gas at the time of the opening of the shaft.
Todor Belezhkov, TPP AES Galabovo: The shaft is 5 metres deep. It contains wastewater that has actually been drained before the start of work, but whether it has been completely drained is yet to be identified.
The condition of the two injured workers remains serious. Doctors at Stara Zagora Hospital stabilised them.
Dr. Petko Mihailov from the hopsital in Stara Zagora explained that one of the injured was in medicated modified consciousness. The second worker had to be operated last night around midnight - he had an impression fracture. It is an indentation of the broken bones of the skull.
The Labor Inspectorate checks the causes of the incident. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for causing average bodily harm due to negligence.
