International reactions after arrest of Bulgarian journalist’s murder suspect

EC President Jean-Claude Juncker welcomed the swift and intensive efforts by the Bulgarian authorities who in close cooperation with law enforcement agencies from other EU Member States successfully arrested the suspected murderer of journalist Victoria Marinova.

The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, also congratulated the Bulgarian authorities for the good work. He noted that the perpetrator’s incentives were not related to the victim's work.

The chair of the EPP group in the European Parliament also commented saying that the investigators in Bulgaria have done a very good job and Bulgaria has shown that it can be a reliable partner in the European Union. In an interview given to the Bulgarian National Television, Manfred Weber announced that he fully shares the disappointment of Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov for the premature European comments on the subject.

Earlier, Weber had said on Twitter that he was in shock of the brutal murder of a Bulgarian journalist, and that was very worrying. Prime Minister Borissov today,10th of October, commented that he would rethink his support for Weber as the leading candidate of the European People's Party for the next European elections. Today, for BNT, Weber expressed hope that in the coming days he will speak personally with Borissov to iron out misunderstandings, if any.
