The current deputy chief prosecutor, Ivan Geshev is the first nomination for a new chief prosecutor. The proposal was made during a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council on July 22.
His candidacy was supported by all members of the Prosecutors’ College.
The deadline for the nomination of candidates for the post of Bulgaria’s chief Prosecutor is July 29. Proposals can be made by minimum 3 members of the Prosecutor’s college.
Ivan Geshev has been the head of the Special Prosecutor's Office since 2016. He became Deputy Prosecutor General a year ago.
Candidates are required to present their concepts and motivation to the Council by 12 August. On 9 October, the Prosecutor's Office will rule on their admissibility.
