A 47-year-old man died in Sofia after he was struck by lightning on June 17.
The tragic indicent happened while the man was walking his dog in Sofia’s Lyulin 6 residential area. The dog also died.
The call about the incident to the emergency medical services was received at 20.17pm, and an ambulance had reached the man within eight minutes.
He was transported to Pirogov emergency hospital as quickly as possible, but his condition was very severe and he died as the ambulance reached the hospital, in spite of the efforts of the medical team during the transportation.
Katya Sungarska, the spokesperson of the emergency medical services said that this was the second such incident in two days. On Sunday, a 38-year-old man who was fishing on the Iskar Dam near Sofia died instantly when he was struck by lightning.
