On 30th of July, the leader of the ‘Movement for Rights and Freedoms’(MRF), Lyutvi Mestan, declined the offered mandate to form a government and returned it to Bulgaria’s President, Rosen Plevneliev. With this, the possibilities for forming a government within the current 42nd National Assembly have been exhausted.
MRF is the third largest parliamentary party, to which the Head of State offered the mandate, in line with the Constitution, after the other two parties GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) declined to form a government. The next steps are dissolving the 42nd National Assembly, appointing a caretaker government and scheduling early parliamentary elections.
President Rosen Plevneliev has already stated that on 5th of August at 11.00 a.m. he will name the caretaker government, on 6th of August will dissolve the National Assembly and the caretaker government will take office. The early general elections will be held on 5th of October as it was previously agreed during the consultations between the political parties and the Head of State.
