Bulgarian MP Aleksandar Metodiev from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, known as Bat Sali, gave up his immunity from criminal prosecution on 11th of July. Metodiev filed a written consent to the National Assembly for his immunity to be lifted.
On 7th of July, Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov submitted a request to the National Assembly seeking for lifting the immunity of Alexander Metodiev. The accusations in relation to which he wanted to proceed against Metodiev arise from an incident in which the MP violated road traffic rules and threatened police officers to “fire” them, because they stopped a minibus with “his people”, the football team of Roma people from the town of Samokov, for a check and issued a penalty ticket to one of them, who did not have ID documents.
