Experts described in a report the most dangerous roads in the country and pointed out the most common driving mistakes. The main conclusion of the document is that traffic participants do not yet have the necessary behavioral culture, and sanctioning offenders still requires large resources without increasing the collection rate of fines.
Data show that last year, just over 600 people died in serious accidents across the country and more than 8,000 were injured. More than half of the killed were the drivers themselves.
The largest number of accidents were reported in Plovdiv, Sofia and Varna, and the smallest number was in Pernik, Targovishte and Yambol.
The analysis of road experts shows that most of the accidents occurred in the areas around interurban roads.
The major cause remains high speed, insisting on taking the right of way, incorrect maneuvers and not respecting distance are the other most common mistakes that motorists make.
