So far, there is no official response from Turkey as to why it does not readmit migrants which Bulgaria attempted to return, Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior said after the regular Wednesday meeting of the government on 22nd of June.
The cabinet ratified the protocol for the implementation of the readmission agreement with Turkey, signed on 5th of May, which sets out the details regarding the return of irregular migrants to Turkey.
The minister said that the fence at Bulgaria’s border with Turkey would be completed and that additional 10 or 15 million BGN would be provided for that.
Bachvarova explained that so far Bulgaria submitted documents for the return of 200 people, who crossed Bulgaria-Turkey border, but had no reply from Turkey within the envisaged deadlines. So far, we have not received any official notice for termination of the agreement, she said.
