November 14 elections: Gen. Atanas Atanasov resigns as leader of “Democrats for Strong Bulgaria”

The co-leader of "Democratic Bulgaria" coalition .Gen. Atanas Atanasov, on November 15, resigned as leader of his party, “Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria” (DSB), which is a constituent party of the coalition. Earlier today, Hristo Ivanov, the leader of "Yes, Bulgaria", the other constituent party of “Democratic Bulgaria” also resigned.

"Despite our efforts, the result of this election is poor, for which I take personal responsibility," wrote Gen. Atanasov on Facebook.

"I sincerely thank the people who gave their vote for “Democratic Bulgaria”, our candidates in the lists, the volunteers and all the activists for their dedicated and selfless work. Despite our efforts, the result of these elections is poor, for which I take personal responsibility.

Pursuant to Article 21, para. 1 of the Statute of DSB, after coordination with the National leadership of the party and conducting a reporting and election campaign in the structures, I will convene a national meeting of DSB to elect a new Chairman and National Leadership, he said.

In difficult times like this, it is necessary to show resilience and national responsibility. Together with the other leaders of Democratic Bulgaria, we are obliged and will protect the interests of the voters of the alliance, which is the only one capable of effectively defending our causes. It should be preserved and developed.

I express my sincere gratitude to the colleagues from the Conference of Presidents of “Democratic Bulgaria” for our joint work. It is an honour for me to be from one team!", Atanasov wrote.

According to the provisional results of the November 14 elections, "Democratic Bulgaria" was shown to have less than 6.% of the votes. In April regular elections, it had 9.45% and 12.6% in the July early parliamentary elections.
