Over 900 000 BGN have been raised so far through SMS donations under the campaign launched by the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) to support the people affected from the floods in the North-East of Bulgaria in the areas of Varna, Dobrich and Veliko Turnovo. This was reported at the first meeting of the Public Council, held on 3rd of July. The Council is appointed to allocate the funds to the most affected families.
The Public Council includes representatives of the media, Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense and the National Audit Office. The Chairperson is dr Valentin Peev from the BRC and the deputy chair is Kremena Kadieva from the Bulgarian National television (BNT). The donated funds will be used mainly for purchase of household appliances, said the BRC chairperson, Hristo Grigorov. He added that the campaign was not closed and was going on.
