Parliament failed to reach quorum on the first and second attempts to start the sitting
Bulgaria’s Parliament on November 17 failed to gather a quorum to take a final decision on the vote of no confidence in the government. Thus, the vote of no-confidence in the Denkov cabinet remained pending, at least until next Wednesday, when the next parliamentary sitting is scheduled.
"Due to the lack of quorum, the sitting cannot be opened today, we continue on Wednesday at 9.00 a.m.," Prliament’s Speaker Rosen Zhelyazkov said.
MPs were due to vote today on the second vote of no confidence in the Denkov cabinet over problems in the security and defence sectors. Yesterday, a lack of quorum prevented parliament from taking a final decision on the no-confidence motion tabled by the opposition.
Although the plenary chamber was full this morning, only 78 MPs registered for the sitting. A second attempt to start the plenary day followed, which was again unsuccessful - 1 MP each from GERB and Vazrazhdane, 55 from We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria and 21 from BSP for Bulgaria registered.
This gave “Vazrazhdane” and “There is Such a People” a reason to accuse the left of supporting the Denkov cabinet after securing the quorum.
Meanwhile, GERB and MRF said it was not their job to ensure the quorum of the WCC-DB after the proposal to cancel the derogation for Russian oil was rejected yesterday.
