Police officers detained a criminal from Sofia for carrying 16 illegal migrants in his car, the press office of the Ministry of Interior announced on 20th of September.
Yesterday, around 16.10 am, in the area of 183 km on a main road 1-1 in the direction of Mezdra, police officers checked a Chrysler Voyager car. They identified a total of 16 foreign citizens - 14 men, a woman and a child, all of them without identity documents. Some of the people said they were Afghan citizens, the rest - for Iraqis.
A site inspection was carried out. The driver was detained by police for 24 hours and the vehicle was seized. The identity of the migrants is being established.
Pre-trial proceedings were initiated. Work on the case continues under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office.
