On 9th June, President Rosen Plevneliev met with newly elected Members of the European Parliament from Bulgaria. They agreed on 16 main priorities for Bulgaria, which required domestic political consensus and common action of the Bulgarian MEPs, despite of their political orientation.
Among the priorities outlined during the meeting were: overcoming the difficulties related to absorption of EU funds; protection of the rights of the Bulgarian citizens in the European Union and confirming Bulgaria as a major factor for more integration and cohesion on the Balkans. The President emphasized the importance of a clear and transparent procedure for nomination of the Bulgarian candidate for EU Commissioner. Rosen Plevneliev expressed his expectation that the political leaders reach consensus on a date for early parliamentary elections.
The meeting was the first of its kind and was held at the initiative of President Plevneliev.
