President Radev took part in the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development in Paris

Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev took part in the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development, held in Paris on July 25, on the eve of the start of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games, the press office of the Presidency said.

President Radev is in France on the occasion of the opening of the Olympics at the invitation of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach. The summit was hosted by Emmanuel Macron and Thomas Bach.

The focus of the event was on commitment to children's health and education, improving access to physical activity, using sports to build skills in young people, and enhancing people's well-being. The participants at the forum supported the Paris Agreement on Sport and Sustainable Development, which Bulgaria, represented by Head of State Rumen Radev, joined. The agreement aims to contribute to progress on the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals through various commitments to promote sports.

The summit was attended by heads of state and government, international organisations, athletes and representatives of international federations, the Olympic movement and the non-governmental sector. The discussion included five thematic panels as a symbol of the five Olympic rings and took place at the Louvre Palace.

Within the framework of the summit, President Radev held talks with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. The two discussed the good cooperation between Bulgaria and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, as well as the need to popularise cultural and historical heritage among young people.

The importance of sport for the upbringing and health of the young people and the creation of conditions for their involvement in various physical activities was the topic of the talks between Head of State Rumen Radev and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Tomorrow, July 26, Head of State Rumen Radev and his wife Desislava Radeva will participate in the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games, in which Bulgaria will be represented by 46 athletes in 16 sports.
