The price of natural gas for April is going up by more than 25%, Bulgaria’s Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) decided in the late afternoon on April 1. The main reason is an increase in supply prices on international markets. Due to the rise of the price of gas, the price of heating and hot water will be also increased, but from May. The moratorium on electricity, water and domestic heating prices has been lifted since midnight.
The energy regulator EWRC waited until the last minute before announcing the changes, because it had monitored gas prices on the international market. The announced increase is half the 58%, which was initially announced by public supplier “Bulgargaz” and 12% more than what the regulator announced on Wednesday. The reason for the change is the sharp surge in natural gas price on international markets.
The rise in natural gas prices is expected to affect heating and electricity prices. While for electricity the change is expected in July, for heating it is likely to happen in May.
