The price of electricity will not increase until the end of the year. This was assured by the Chair of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC), Ivan Ivanov, during a public discussion on 9th of October. He did not commit to a forecast for 2019 because the price of electricity is tied to natural gas.
Two public discussions were held this morning at EWRC: one on the 10-year plan for the development of the power grid system of the Energy System Operator and the second one on the new electricity prices. The good news is that there will be no change in the bills at least until New Year.
Ivan Ivanov, EWRC Chair: There will be no increase in the price of electricity by the end of the year. I hope the price wil remain unchanged after that and in this regard, the Bulgargaz director said that if there is a rise in the gas price for the fourth quarter, he expects this increase to be below 5%. You know that if the increase is below 5%, there will be no change in the price of heating or the price of electricity.
On 9th of December, Bulgargaz will submit his proposal for a new gas price for the first quarter of next year. If it is above 5% then the regulator will need to update the price of electricity and the district heating service.
