Prof. Dr. Pascal Zhelyazkov is the new Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. Before that he was the director of the National Diagnostic Veterinary Research Institute “Prof. Dr. G. Pavlov".
Prof. Zhelyazkov has many years of experience as a leader of structures with research, diagnostic and analytical activities. He was the head of the department at the Centre for Risk Assessment, the director of the National Research Station for Hunting, Biology and Game Diseases, as well as the Deputy General Director of the National Veterinary Office.
He has over 90 scientific publications and scientific reports. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Zootechnics and Veterinary Medicine in Stara Zagora. He is fluent in English and Russian.
A new Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Mariana Shumova, has also been appointed, currently serving as Head of the Border Control Directorate. Dr. Shumova also served as Director of the Regional Directorate for Food Safety in Haskovo. She will take the position of Assoc. Prof. Todorka Yankovska-Stefanova.
