Prosecutor General requests recusal of members of the Supreme Judicial Council
"What I am going to show you and tell you will explain the course of an investigation in the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office for political corruption and influence peddling. I gave explanations at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office on a signal filed by Borislav Sarafov (Deputy Prosecutor General and head of the National Investigation Service) against me," Prosecutor General, Ivan Geshev, said at a briefing on May 22.

In his words, this is an attack against the state, its normal functioning, division of powers and fundamental constitutional principles and European values.
"During the hearing in the Supreme Judicial Council I will ask for the recusal of some of the members who may be involved in this attack on the judiciary. I will ask that part of the hearing be closed in the interest of the prestige of the judiciary. Those who have done all this are those whom Bulgarian citizens call the oligarchy and the mafia. The Bulgarian Prosecutor's office is stable and united," Ivan Geshev added.
He explained that the unprecedented political unification against the Prosecutor’s Office was a fact.
"Part of this conspiracy is the so-called "Zarkov" law, which is unconstitutional, it will be subjected to a review by the Constitutional Court, its only goal is not to solve the economic, demographic crisis, the war on the roads, the fight against organized crime," Ivan Geshev said.
The Prosecutor General announced that the paticipation of an Israeli expert (in the investigation of the explosion near his car) did not violate any legal requirements and everything happened after the completion of the inspection of the scene. According to him, this is a digression on the topic of why someone tried to kill or intimidate the Prosecutor General.
"I never thought of resigning when threatened by some trash. I have explained this course of relevant checks. I have nothing to worry and fear. Yasen Todorov (Deputy head of the National Investigation Service) came to me and I explained to him what the situation is," Ivan Geshev further said and added that the Supreme Judicial Council should include only magistrates elected by magistrates.
Geshev presented a recording of a conversation in which the name of GERB-UDF leader, Boyko Borissov, was mentioned.
Prosecutor General, Ivan Geshev, showed the threatening letter against him, which he mentioned last week when he said he was not afraid and demonstratively tore up what he called his resignation in front of the media.

Geshev showed the scanned document, which begins with a quote from “Winnie the Pooh” and ends with “Don't worry be happy”.
The unknown sender wrote that "every fairy tale has its end and the end of this fairy tale has come." It adds that Geshev has "turned against" them and urges him to "go in peace" lest the "enter" button be pressed.
The Prosecutor General was summoned for questioning at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office today over two inspections.
Ivan Geshev did not show up at the building of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office in "Cherkovna" street. Last week on Thursday, during a meeting of the SJC, he himself announced that he had been summoned today at 10 a.m. to give explanations on a probe that the State Prosecutor's Office had launched into his statement from last week. At that time, he said that he had been offered two ambassadorial posts in exchange for his resignation.
The second probe, on which he has to give an explanation, is in connection with Deputy Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov's signal. He claims that Geshev committed three crimes. The first - that he illegally recorded a conversation with Yordan Stoev, a member of the SJC. The second accusation is that Geshev used the base of the Prosecutor's office in Borovets as a personal residence. The third - that he influenced the supervising prosecutor in the “Barcelonagate” case.
It is unclear whether the Prosecutor General will appear for questioning. According to unofficial information, Ivan Geshev has been summoned to the Prosecutor's office tomorrow at 9:30.
