REFORMIST BLOC REMAINS PART OF BULGARIA’S GOVERNMENT

After a 3-hour meeting of the Executive Council of parties of the centre-right Reformist Bloc on 15th of December, it was decided that the bloc would remain in the government.

The meeting was attended by the leaders of the Reformist Bloc constituent parties and the ministers it has in the government.

The leader of “Democrats for Strong Bulgaria”, Radan Kanev, and his deputy Atanas Atanasov left the meeting without any comments, while Bozhidar Lukarski (leader of the Union for Democratic Forces), Meglena Kuneva (leader of “Bulgaria for Citizens Movement” , Korman Ismailov (leader of “Freedom and Dignity”), Nikolai Nenchev (leader of Bulgarian Agrarian National Union) and Borislav Velikov (leader of Bulgarian New Democracy) read out a statement for the media and declined to answer questions.

The statement says that the Reformist Bloc reaffirms its participation in the ruling coalition. “Democrats for Strong Bulgaria” maintain their position, to remain in opposition and start talks with the main ruling party GERB to review and assess the achievements of the government and on an update of the coalition agreement with a temporary timetable for its implementation.

On 14th of December, Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the “Bulgaria for Citizens Movement” (a party in the RB), Meglena Kuneva, said that her party was preparing and would propose a declaration to the other parties in the Reformist Bloc, stating a support for the government, but it would also contain a 6-month deadline, during which specific results should be achieved in several priority areas.

After the meeting, the Reformist Bloc reaffirmed its support for the ministers it has in the government.
