Registration of parties and coalitions to participate in Bulgaria’s local government elections with the Central Election Commission (CEC) started on September 2.
The deadline for submission of documents is September 11, and the vote itself is scheduled for October 27.
As part of the tradition, GERB was the first to register for the elections.
For 9 days, GERB youths have been waiting in the queue to be the first to submit their documents to the CEC. The party formally submitted 9,999 signatures in support of its application. The collected signatures are approximately 40,000. The leadership of the party has reviewed about 9,000 candidates for mayors and municipal advisors over the recent two days.
Democratic Bulgaria was the second to file documents with CEC. This is the second time this political formation will take part in elections. The party’s application documents were supported by 5,400 signatures.
Three more political parties and cioalitions submitted documents to the CEC for registration in the mayoral and municipal elections: Volya party, “Freedom” Formation, and Coalition for Plovdiv.
Parties and coalitions have until 25 September to submit their applications for mayors and municipal councilors.
