Families from Hitrino village who were forced to leave their homes on 10th of December because of an explosion of a derailed freight train, will be allowed to return to their homes.
The residents will be allowed to go back to their properties after 14:00 on 20th of December, in accordance with a timetable, Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Roumyana Bachvarova said.
The timetable will be prepared by the Mayor of the village and the people from the local council. Two buses were provided for the transportation of the residents. Bachvarova said that it would be risky to allow all residents in the village at one and the same time, because of the ongoing operation for emptying and removal of the last tank from the village.
On 10 December 2016, the residents of the village of Hitrino were evacuated because a freight train carrying gas derailed and exploded killing seven people and injuring 29 others.
Access of Hitrino residents to their houses was restricted until all emergency and cleanup activities were complete.
