A total of 16 Romanian police officers will work in joint patrols with Bulgarian police officers at the seaside resorts during the summer season, Ministry of interior’s (MoI) Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov said in the coastal city of Varna on 1st of July at the launch of the joint initiative with the Head of Security Police of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, Ion Oratiu Rusean.
The Romanian police officers will patrol together with their Bulgarian counterparts in the territory covered by four regional police stations at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast – Albena, Balchik, Golden Sands and Nessebar. Two Romanian police officers will be seconded to each of the four Bulgarian police stations in July and August. In addition, Bulgaria and Romania will introduce joint border patrols on Fridays and Sundays.
More than 750 Bulgarian police officers from the interior of the country will be brought in to the seaside resorts to support the work of their colleagues.
The MoI Chief Secretary and the Executive Director of the National Revenue Agency (NRA) Boyko Atanasov announced that an interagency centre for joint work between the MoI and the revenue agency was set up in Varna. The aim is to improve the work of all law enforcement authorities in countering crimes which cause losses to the state budget. The centre will be accommodated in the building of the MoI Directorate in the city of Varna.
The work of the centre will focus in three areas – joint patrols at the resorts, joint actions during checks of night clubs on compliance with the tax legislation and fiscal control, the NRA Executive director explained.
