The leader of PES (Party of the European Socialists), Sergei Stanishev, announced his intention to resign from the post of the Chairperson of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), after 13 years at the helm. He proposed a congress to be convened on 27th of July to adopt the election campaign platform of the party and to elect the new chairperson.
According to him the socialist party needs changes.
Stanishev said that he would not run away from his responsibilities and that he was a very important pillar in the BSP. Stanishev noted he would stay firm to the new leader of the BSP.
At the beginning of the month, Stanishev quitted the Bulgarian Parliament to become a Member of the European Parliament.
