From Monday, 10th of September, Shipka Pass will be partially closed for repair. The reason is the reconstruction of a broken lane on the road.
Almost for three months, traffic has been restricted because of landslides. The road section was fenced at the beginning of June, but its repair has not begun yet. Drivers have said that passing through that stretch is extremely dangerous. The deformation is in a short bend below which there is a 50-meter abyss and limited visibility.
Experts warn that if the road is not strengthened before the autumn-winter season, this may cause accidents. During the repair, trafic will be restricted for several hours during the day, on both lanes, but it will not be closed completely, said the head of the District Road Administration, Iliya Zlatev. He stressed that the repair works start next week. The repair of the road section is scheduled to be completed by October 15th.
