Important news for motorists: from today, 1 December, Sofia’s low-emission zone for vehicles comes into force.
The key change this season is that, in addition to the “inner ring”, the restrictions will now cover a wider area – the so-called “outer ring”.
The “inner ring” includes Vasil Levski Boulevard, Patriarch Evtimiy Boulevard, Gen. Skobelev Boulevard, Slivnitsa Boulevard and Opalchenska Street.
Vehicles in the first and second eco-groups are prohibited from entering this area.
In the “outer ring”, the most polluting vehicles – those in the first eco-category – are banned.
This zone covers Slivnitsa, Danail Nikolaev, Sitnyakovo, Mihai Eminescu, Peyo Yavorov, Nikola Vaptsarov, Petko Todorov and Ivan Geshov boulevards, as well as Atanas Dukov, Lyuba Velichkova, Srebarna and Henrik Ibsen streets.
A total of 180 cameras, positioned at the entry points to both rings, will monitor compliance with the restrictions.
The measure will remain in force until the end of February.
