Security measures at Sofia Airport have been strengthened after the terrorist attacks in Istanbul. Teams of the Gendarmerie carry out checks on suspicious vehicles near Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and officers from the Specialized Unit for Combatting Terrorism were brought in to the airport.
Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul to Sofia and Sofia to Istanbul on 29th of June were cancelled.
Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Rumyana Bachvarova and the Minister of Transport Ivailo Moskovski arrived at the airport to check the security measures.
We guarantee the highest level of security and are vigilant for possible development of the situation. there are aditional patrols to ensure the safety of the citizens, Bachvarova said.
Ivailo Moskovski said that given the situation, we were obliged to apply all security measures. There might be delays for travelers, but it is better to be secure, he added and asked passengers to be patient.
