Exactly at 12 o’clock on 1st of August people started dancing to traditional Bulgarian folk music in the waiting room at the station in order to celebrate the 130th anniversary.
According to the data of the National Railway Infrastructure Company in 2017 4,500,000 passengers have passed through the Central Railway Station in Sofia. This is according to data from sold tickets. Around 12,000 people travel through the station per day. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were 415 people, who traveled daily.
130 years ago, the first international train from London and Paris “Oriental Express” passed through the Sofia Central Station.
The first building of the station was designed by the then chief architect of Sofia, but was completely destroyed in 1974 in order to build the new building.
