During the period January - August 2020, the export of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 11.5% compared to the same period of 2019 and amounted to BGN 11,990.3 million, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced on October 13. Bulgaria's main trade partners are Turkey, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Serbia, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Northern Macedonia, which account for 54.1% of exports to third countries.

In August 2020 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 25.8% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 1 323.8 Million BGN.

During the period January - August 2020 in the export of goods from Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard Foreign Trade Classification, the largest growth compared to the same period in 2019 was observed in the sectors "Animal fats, oils and waxes of plant origin "(56.1%) and" Food and live animals " (14.4%). The largest decrease was observed in the sector "Mineral fuels, oils and related products" (54.6%).

Imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in the period January - August 2020 decreased by 12.8% compared to the same period of 2019 and amounted to BGN 14,593.4 million. The largest is the value of goods imported from Turkey, the Russian Federation, China and Serbia. In August 2020 the imports of goods in Bulgaria from third countries decreased by 9.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 1 737,4 Million BGN.

In the import of goods from third countries, distributed according to the Standard Foreign Trade Classification, in the period January - August 2020 the largest increase compared to the same period in 2019 was reported in the sectors "Raw (raw) materials, unfit for consumption" (excl. fuels) "(66.7%) and" Animal and vegetable fats, oils and waxes" (37.4%). The largest decrease was observed in the sector "Mineral fuels, oils and related products" (50.4%).

The foreign trade balance (exports FOB - imports CIF) of Bulgaria with third countries in the period January - August 2020 was negative and amounted to 2 603.1 Million BGN. In August 2020 the foreign trade balance (exports FOB - imports CIF) with third countries was also negative and amounted to 413.6 Million BGN.

During the period January - August 2020, a total of BGN 35,230.5 million worth of goods were exported from Bulgaria, which is 8.4% less than in the same period of 2019. In August 2020 the total exports of goods amounted to 4 115.6 Million BGN and decreased by 15.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the period January - August 2020, a total of BGN 37,796.0 million worth of goods were imported into the country (at CIF prices), or by 12.6% less compared to the same period of 2019. In August 2020 the total imports of goods decreased by 10.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 4 546.0 million.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - imports CIF) was negative in the period January - August 2020 and amounted to 2 565.5 Million BGN. In August 2020 the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was also negative and amounted to 430.4 Million BGN.
