The central beach at the Black Sea resort “Lozents”, South-East Bulgaria, will remain closed for swimming for an unidentified period of time. A temporary swimming ban was put in place on 20th of August following an analysis of the sea water, which showed higher levels of bacteria.
New samples of water were taken on 21st of August and the results will be available within 48 hours. Swimming will be lifted when 2 consecutive test results show that the water quality complies with the required standards.
The next time water samples will be taken for analysis will be on Monday, 24th of August.
Doctor Stoyan Staichev from the Regional Health Inspection service in Bourgas said that the ban would remain in place until the samples showed compliance with the standards. He assured that bathing water quality was monitored at a regular basis and samples were taken every 14 days. D-r Staichev explained that at least 5 additional analyses of the water in the location were made.
