The Bulgarian sailors and the Ukrainian cadet from the crew of the stranded ship “Tsarevna” in Mariupol are still in Ukraine, but in a safe place. 14 Bulgarians have been evacuated, the manager of the company that hired the crew Nikolai Stefanov, said on April 14. The ship, with the five sailors left on board, is blocked in Mariupol for 50days now.
The evacuated Bulgarian sailors from “Tsarevna” are expected to return home by plane in two days. The owner of the company that operates the ship again declined to comment on the route the sailors would be taken home, explaining that such information could endanger them. He also said that the sailors would only be safe when they left Ukraine.
Currently, the captain, his chief mate and 3 other sailors responsible for the maintenance of the ship's systems remain on board of “Tsarevna”ship of their own volition. Two of them are Ukrainians. They have enough food and water.
And in this case, when there are only 5 sailors on board, there is a plan of action which is being implemented. It is not yet known how long the vessel will stay in Mariupol, as the port is not working, the approaches to it are mined, and there are two submerged cranes. And this in all likelihood means that the “Tsarevna” will remain in Mariupol for a long time. According to experts, when the ship is likely to leave the port, more sailors will have to board it.
