“The construction of the Bulgarian section of South Stream gas pipeline will start in June at the latest”, forecast the South Stream Bulgaria executive director, Igor Elkin. On Wednesday 23 April, he met with business representatives from the region of the Black Sea coastal city of Varna.
According to Elkin, the implementation of the South Stream project will bring 3 billion euro foreign direct investments to Bulgaria; create between 2,000 and 3,000 new jobs; attract local companies to invest in highly qualified personnel; and develop additional gas infrastructure in Bulgaria.
Elkin assured that all environmental protection standards would be respected during project implementation and confirmed that negotiations had taken place about a possible extension of the gas pipeline to Austria.
