The Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Ivan Iskrov, expressed his readiness to resign. In a letter to the Chairperson of Bulgaria’s Parliament and to the media on 22nd of July, Iskrov states that if within the discussions on the agenda and priorities for the activities of the 42nd National Assembly prior to its dissolution on 6th of August, the parties in Parliament reach a consensus to elect a new BNB Governor, he is ready to submit his resignation immediately.
In the motives, Iskrov says he disagrees with BNB and its Governor being used for pre-election political purposes through systematic and unacceptable accusations.
Referring to the case of Corporate Commercial Bank, Iskrov states that BNB continues to work and to strictly fulfill its obligations. According to him, this is a long process and will take a minimum of 3 months. In order for the conservators to be able to do their job properly, it is very likely that the special supervision will be extended to the maximum term of 6 months, as provided for by the law.
