A record high number of patients have been admitted to the Covid-19 wards in the hospitals in the city of Yambol, Southern Bulgaria. Due to the depletion of ward beds, the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) in the city on March 23 issued an order to increase their number
Currently, the patients with coronavirus infection in Yambol district are 882 and 138 of them are in the hospitals where Covid-19 wards had been opened. 8 people are in intensive care.
The largest number of patients , 79, are in the district hospital. To alleviate the work of the resuscitators to some extent, emergency abdominal surgeries are performed in a private hospital, where all beds for Covid-19 patients are occupied.
"The beds are 98% occupied. Of the 82 beds for uncomplicated cases in “St. Panteleimon” hospital, 79 beds are occupied. In the intensive care, 8 out of 9 in total are occupied. This shortage requires a new reorganization of the hospital beds as of today, increasing them by taking 5 beds from the skin diseases ward for the purposes of treatment of Covid-19 patients in an uncomplicated condition," said Donka Zheleva, chief secretary of Yambol.
