Vazovski Mashinostroitelni Zavodi (VMZ) AD, Sopot will be recruiting more workers, the enterprise-based trade unions organisation, Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) announced. The appointments of new employees are expected to start this week. The initial step will be to firstly invite old workers, who were laid off during last year’s crisis.
At the moment VMZ AD Sopot has a new order of production for North America. This requires the workshops to work on two shifts. Nearly 1000 people were laid off or forced to retire last year. Currently the staff of the enterprise is about 2100 people.
VMZ AD, Sopot is the largest enterprise in the area of military and industrial complex in Bulgaria. Last year the company was in extremely difficult financial and economic position, with significant amounts of current and accumulated loses and debts. As a result stabilisation measures were implemented to restructure the company and the capital was increased. 27.5 million BGN fresh resources were injected to the company to pay outstanding liabilities, delayed salaries to workers and to restart its production.
